The Ohio State University Electrical and Computer Engineering to hold Equal Rights Light Vigil

When: Friday, June 12, 2020 at 7:30 p.m.

Where: Garden of Constants, adjacent to Dreese Laboratory

“Sparks of Light to Drive Out the Darkness”

In support of the nationwide Black Lives Matter protests, we cannot stay silent. This Friday, June 12, at 7:30 p.m. all electrical and computer engineering students, staff, faculty, alumni and supporters are invited to join us in the Garden of Constants public art space adjacent to Dreese Labs for a peaceful vigil to honor the life and tragic death of George Floyd.

Silence is not acceptable anymore. We shall collectively and visually show our support for the end of systemic racism in America and honor our students facing racial hardships in their own lives. We seek real change moving forward.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” As educators and engineers of solutions, we choose to spark light into the darkness.

We join together peacefully on Friday, respecting social distancing guidelines, use of masks and university orders to enter no buildings during the pandemic lockdown. Peaceful signage to display your individual message is requested.

The vigil is organized by faculty and staff of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department.
