You're invited to join us for this open, free-to-attend networking and discussion event with Assistant Professor Lin Du, of Ohio State's College of Medicine and College of Engineering, and Associate Professor Jennifer Carter, of Case Western Reserve University's College of Engineering and currently on sabbatical at Lincoln Electric, for a discussion covering a wide array of topics, including career journeys, accomplishments, challenges, and opportunities in STEM fields and areas related to nanotechnology.

The WIN event series strives to create a supportive community of women, provide new spaces to network, and grow interest in the micro- and nanotechnology-related fields.
The event will be open to students, faculty, staff and some industry guests. We will be focused on the challenges and opportunities for those who identify as women in nano-related fields, but the event is open to everyone who supports our mission of empowering women in nano.

Lin Du
Dr. Du joined The Ohio State University College of Medicine and College of Engineering as an Assistant Professor in 2023. She received her Ph.D. in Electrical and Systems Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania under the guidance of Prof. Mark G. Allen. In 2021, Dr. Du began her postdoctoral research at the University of California, Berkeley working with Prof. Grigory Tikhomirov. Her research focuses on implantable MEMS technology, DNA self-assembly nanotechnology, and their transformative applications within the realm of medical systems. She is currently leading studies on the integration of implantable tactile sensing systems and neuron/muscle stimulators with Brain Machine Interface technology, as well as advancing clinical trials. In 2021, Lin was honored as an MIT EECS Rising Star. The following year, she was selected as a HS Chau Women in Enterprising Science Fellow at the Innovative Genomics Institute, and in 2023, she became a Foresight Fellow. In 2024, she received the research grant from Morton Cure Paralysis Fund and College of Engineering Strategic Research Initiative Grant.
Jennifer Carter
Jennifer Carter is an Associate Professor at Case Western Reserve University. She is a double alumnus of the University of California at Davis, receiving her B.S. (2006) in Mechanical Engineering and her M.S. (2008) in Materials Science and Engineering. She completed her Ph.D. (2012) in Materials Science and Engineering at The Ohio State University. Her research focuses on engineering experimental approaches to solve the disparate manufacturing and design challenges of interface-rich materials. We innovate by translating problem-solving methodologies between seemingly unconnected silos of thought with the goal of understanding the physical mechanisms of

microstructural evolution. By collaborating with domain specialists, this understanding then informs the design of processing routes to improve materials that perform in applications that positively impact society. Her group has shown these approaches are agnostic and can improve the design of processing routes and application performance of metallic materials for elevated-temperature environments such as power plants and jet engines as well as inform art restoration approaches for maintaining cultural heritage artifacts curated by the Smithsonian. She was awarded an NSF-CAREER grant in 2016, and a 2019 PECASE for her interdisciplinary work. In addition to her technical achievements, Jennifer devotes her time to STEM education and the inclusion of diverse viewpoints within her field. She is an academic advisor for students majoring in Materials Science, an affiliated faculty with the Applied Data Science Minor, and the faculty advisor for the CWRU softball team. She is a volunteer for The Metals Minerals and Materials Society, previously serving as the chairperson for the Mechanical Behavior Subcommittee and the past chairperson of the Diversity Committee.
