2019 OSU Materials Week

2019 OSU Materials Week, the 11th annual showcase of materials-allied research at The Ohio State University and beyond, will be held May 7-9 at the Blackwell Inn & Conference Center on Ohio State’s Columbus campus.

This year’s annual conference features the IMR keynote address, the Three Minute Thesis competition and two rounds of student poster sessions, as well as technical and cross-cutting sessions focusing on the latest advances in the full spectrum of materials innovation.

The conference will kick off with introductions, which will include a welcome from Ohio State’s Senior Vice President for Research Morley Stone. This will be followed by the IMR Keynote Address by Dr. Tatjana Curcic, of the DARPA Defense Sciences Office. Multiple cross-cutting and focus sessions will weave through the three-day event, covering topics ranging from Materials for Biofabrication and Next-generation Functional Materials to Data Science for Advanced Manufacturing.

Food and drinks will be available during our evening receptions at 5 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, allowing opportunities to meet and mingle after both day’s focus sessions. The Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition challenges master’s and doctoral students to describe their research within three minutes to a general audience (Tues., 5:15 p.m.). Awards will be given to the winner, runner-up and people’s choice. Watch last year’s winning presentation here. At our Poster Session events, students and postdoctoral researchers will contribute posters showcasing research conducted in any topic relevant to materials-allied research (Tues. and Wed., 6 p.m.). Awards will be given to the top posters. Read about last year’s awards here.

The conference will wrap up Thursday with our final cross-cutting session and lunch, featuring an awards ceremony for our student poster winners and recognitions of faculty achievement.

2019 OSU Materials Week is sponsored by L3 Space and Sensors, Ohio State Energy Partners: Engie and Axium Infrastructure, and the Center for Emergent Materials.
